Answer:
"Molly's New Friend"
"Molly finally made a friend for herself," Her mother informs her father, gleaming with pride. Her father was curious. He asked, "Who is that friend, Molly? You should invite your friend over to have lunch with us."
Molly looked at mother and father like she heard a new word for the first time and she could not believe the word existed. She gulped down the whole water and let out a helpless sigh. What if her friend gets afraid and leaves her when she invites? What if she comes and her parents don't like her? What if she never joins them for dinner and that makes papa angry? Questions like this swirled inside her head. But she smiled and said, "Her name is Daliah. I will invite her, papa."
Molly went to bed with hope and fear. Her heart is full with content that now she had a friend whom she could trust and with whom she could play. She covered her head with the bedcover and asked, "Daliah, you there?" Silence. One, two, three, four, "Do you hear me,Daliah? Come out. I am all alone now."
She saw a little girl crawl our from under her bed and lied down beside her. Daliah looks like a fallen angel from the book Molly used to read at night. Although they play and Molly was happy,Daliah never smiled. She looked very sad and alone. She said, nobody wanted to play with her. Just like Molly, she was outcasted.
"Daliah, my father wants you to come down and have lunch with us sometime." Molly tried to smile. Daliah gave away no expression. "Is that so?" she asked. Molly nodded, careful not to let out her voice and scare Daliah away. Molly bit down on her nails. The air felt thick in her room. Her friend was as quiet as a mouse.
"If you don't want to come, you don't have to. I am your friend now, I understand."
Molly was scared that her father would be disappointed when she would tell him Daliah was gone. But Daliah was not even saying no. She kept staring blankly at Molly. The latter is concerned. She shook Daliah and asked her again. This time, Daliah said yes. Yes, yes, yes... yes, she would come.
It was time for Daliah to go back under the bed. She lived there forever since Molly started to think Daliah lived there. So she said goodbye to Molly with plans to meet on a new day with new hopes.
