Goodness begets Goodness

The incident that took place recently reminds me of the story of Shakuntala and Dushyant in which the ring given by Dushyant to Shakuntala played an important part in reuniting them, for the loss of the ring caused Dushyant to forget all about Shakuntala. This incident took place in a small town in the heart of the Himalayas The people of Preeni are simple and down to earth; though they would hold ownership of huge orchards, they are not polluted by the ostentatious nature of city folks.

Hema's parents sent her to St. Bead's in Shimla for her post graduation and as the first year was coming to a close, she was anxious to go back home. She had never been far from home for such a long time. When the vacation began, each student was given a letter for his/her parent which had the details of the student's performance throughout the year. Hema was very happy to receive the letter as she had done exceedingly well and everyone was happy with her performance. As she was about to board the bus, her roommate gifted her a ring as a token of her love.

She had a good time during the vacation, her parents were very happy to read about here excellent performance. She also showed them the ring that her roommate had given her. It was an expensive one. Her mother kept that in the jewelry box and gave the key to Hema so that she could take it whenever she wanted. The time flew and ultimately she had to leave for college and the end of the vacation was near. She had a mixed feeling about leaving her parents and meeting her friends and teachers and do better in her final year. She did remember to take the ring that her roommate had gifted her. When she unlocked the jewelry box, there was another ring which her mother had brought for her roommate. She was elated to see that and thought her roommate would like that. Her father drove her to Shimla and by evening she was in her hostel.

She was very happy to meet her roommate, and when she gave her the ring that her mother had bought for her, she hugged Hema, They were not best friends forever who had another year to themselves to strengthen their friendship and their performance in the final year.
