"I wish I had been here" would have been great. The sentence is in the SUBJUNCTIVE PRESENT form. You can also use the expression "I wish I could be there" that means you'd like to be there but you can't. Within the subjunctive the "will" form is used to think about things you wish WOULD would happen in the future.
