Given : A straight line intersect the x axis at a and the y axis at  b.

ab is divided internally at c(8,10) in the ratio of 3:4

To Find :  the equation of ab.

Solution:

A straight line intersect the x axis at a and the y axis at  b.

=> Equation of line  =  x/a  + y/b  = 1

a = ( a , 0)

b = (0 , b )

ab is divided internally at c (8,10) in the ratio of 3:4

=>  8  =   ( 3 * 0 + 4*a)/(3 + 4)

=> 56 = 4a

=> a = 14

10 =  ( 3b + 0)/(3 + 4)

=> 70 = 3b

=> b = 70/3

x/14 + y/(70/3)  = 1

=> x/14 + 3y/70  = 1

=> 5x   +  3y  = 70

5x   +  3y  = 70 is the Equation of ab
