if we assume that A spring is stretched by applying load , F to its free end. where Y is rigidity modulus of spring and A is cross sectional area of spring.

use formula, Young's modulus = stress/strain
Y = F/A strain

Strain = F/AY

hence, strain = load /{cross sectional area × Young's modulus }
