A streamer goes down and covers the distance between two parts in 5 hours while it cover the same distance upstream in 6 hours in if the speed of the stream is one kilometre per hour find the speed of the stream in the still water

Let the distance between the two ports be x km.

Then, speed downstream = x/4

And speed upstream = x/5

Speed of the stream,

= [speed downstream - speed upstream] / 2

= (x/4 - x/5)/2

Or, (5x -4x)/40 = 1

Or, x/40 = 1

Thus, x = 40 km.

Distance between two ports = 40 km.
