A streamer goes down stream and covers the distance between two ports in four hours while it cover the same distance up stream in five hours if the speed of the stream is two km/H find the speed of the streamer in still water

Let speed of the steamer in still water
=x km/hr

Speed downstream =(x+2)km/hr
Distance between the ports =4(x+2)km ---(1)

Speed upstream =(x−2) km/hr
Distance between the ports =5(x−2)km ---(2)

From (1) and (2)
4(x+2)=5(x−2)4x+8
=5x−10x=18
