A streamer goes upstream and covers the distance between two points in 4 hours ,while it cover the same distance downdtream in 3 hours . if the speed of the stream is 2 km/hr ,find the speed of the steamer in still water .​

ANSWER :-

let the speed of the steamer in still water be x km/h

Speed upstream = ( x - 2 ) km/h

Speed downstream = ( x + 2 ) km/h

Measures ⠀⠀Upstream⠀⠀Downstream

speed⠀⠀⠀⠀(x - 2) km/h⠀⠀(x + 2) km/h

Time ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀4 hours⠀⠀⠀⠀3 hours

distance ⠀⠀4(x - 2) km⠀⠀⠀3(x + 2) km

Distance between two points =

☞ 4(x - 2) km = 3(x + 2) km

☞ 4x - 8 = 3x + 6

☞ x = 14
