Total length of string
 = 27 \frac{1}{2} m
 = \frac{55}{2}

Length of one piece
 = 2 \frac{3}{4}
 \frac{11}{4}m

Number of pieces can be cut= total length of string / length of one piece

 = \frac{ \frac{55}{2} }{ \frac{11}{4} }

 = \frac{55 \times 4}{11 \times 2}

 = 5 \times 2

=10 pieces
