A string passes over a smooth pulley and carries a 2kg mass at one end and 3kg at the other.What is the acceleration of the masses?

Acceleration = Fnet / total mass in motion

= 3g - 2g / 5 ( 3kg mass will pull 2kg

mass downward so

direction is opposite )

= G/5

= 2 m/s2
