Solution,

The original area of the cardboard is :

A = lb

A=30\times 20=600\ cm^2

When a strip of 4 cm is cut and removed, new dimensions are 26 cm and 16 cm. The area of remaining cardboard is :

A'=26\times 16=416\ cm^2

Area of the removed portion is = A - A'

=600-416\\\\=184\ cm^2
