Question : A student adds a few zinc-coated nails to some dilute sulfuric acid. The nails immediately start to react, producing bubbles of a colorless gas. Explain why it is more dangerous to mix sodium metal rather than zinc metal with dilute hydrochloric acid.

Answer: when zinc reacts with dilute sulphuric acid it forms a salt (zinc sulphate) with the release of a gas that is hydrogen. Most of the acids reacts with metal to form salts and evolve hydrogen gas.
