Caco3+2hcl=cacl2+h20+co2

Marble is calcium carbonate and on reacting with hcl releases co2.

Ca(oh)2+co2=caco3+h20

(Lime water) (white ppt)

Lime water turns milky due to the formation of white ppt caco3 on passing excess co2,milkiness will disappears because ca(hco3)2 is formed which is soluble in water.

Caco3+h20+co2=ca(hco3)2

Soluble in water

Hope it helps...

The chemical formula of marble is Caco3.

So, the reaction of CaCO 3 with HCL

CaCO 3 + 2 HCL ---> CaCl 2 + CO2 + H2 O

The gas evolved is CARBON DIOXIDE ( CO 2 ).

The reaction of Acids with metal carbonates give salt + CO2 + water.

Hence, As we know that when we pass the CO2 through lime water solution, then lime water turns milky.

CaOH ( Lime water) + CO 2 ----> CaCO 3 ( White ppt) + H2O.
