let the total marks be ' x marks '

since the student got 28% marks and failed by 54 % then , Find the pass marks :
_______________________________
according to first statement :

pass marks = 28% of x + 54

=0.28x + 54

according to second statement :

essential pass Marks

=37 % = 37% of x = 0.37 x

since,the both statement saying the same thing .so according to first and second statement :

0.28x + 54 = 0.37x

0.37 x - 0.28x = 54

0.09 x = 54

9 x /100 = 54

9x = 5400

x = 600 marks

pass marks = 37 % of total Marks

=37% of 600 = 0.37 × 600 =222marks

therefore,a student should score 222 marks to pass in exams.
