A student heated a white coloured solid 'X' in a test tube. He observed a colourless gas evolved which turned lime water milky and a white residue ‘Y' was left in the tube.
(i) Identify X & Y
(ii) Identify the gas evolved & the chemical reaction involved in its evolution
(iii) Why did the gas turned lime water milky?​

The gas evolved is carbon dioxide.

CaCO3 ----> CaO + CO2

The gas turned lime water milky because it is carbon dioxide
