A student heats of beaker containing Ice and water. He measure the temperature of the content on a beaker as a function of time. Above the following figure d represent the result. (Option d is the Correct answer)

  • Because of the latent heat of fusion, the temperature of the contents of the beaker does not rise at first. When all of the ice melts, the temperature of the content begins to rise.
  • Because water and ice are in equilibrium, the temperature of the mixture will be zero at the start of the experiment. When students begin heating, latent heat will be used to dissolve the ice at first. As a result, the temperature did not rise for a period of time. The temperature of the water progressively rises as the students continue to heat the mixture.
  • Since ice and water are in equilibrium, the temperature would be zero. When we heat the mixture, energy supplied is utilized in melting the ice and the temperature does not change till all the ice melts because of the latent heat of fusion. On further heating, the temperature of the water would increase.

Hence, Figure d represent the result.
