Here, we apply two laws.
When we measure weight of body by spring balance, we use HOOKS LAW OF ELASTICITY which states that when a body is suspended from a vertical spring, the body produces extension in the length of the spring proportional to its gravitational mass.
When we dip the solid in water, we use ARCHIMEDIS PRINCIPLE which states that the volume of water displaced by solid is equal to the volume of solid.
