1. Silver chloride is white in colour but after exposing it to sunlight , it turns grey.

2. Silver chloride in presence of sunlight undergoes decomposition into silver and chloride. The colour of the silver is seen as the resultant silver colour.

This is known as photolytic decomposition.

3. The equation for the photolytic decomposition is given below:

2AgCl(s)-----------2 Ag(s) + Cl2(g)

"

a) The white color of the silver chloride gets converted into grey color.

b) Reason: Silver chloride which is white shading swings to dim shading silver because of decomposition reaction when the compound is kept in the presence of sunlight it gets dissociated as silver and chlorine. Due to this reaction, the white color of silver chloride gets converted into silver color.

c) Chemical reaction:

2AgCl\left( White \right) \quad \xrightarrow { Sunlight } \quad 2Ag\left( Silver \right) \quad +\quad { Cl }_{ 2 }"
