Explanation:

The packet of chips are flushed with only nitrogen gas . This is because nitrogen is a antioxidant. It prevents the chips from being oxidised. If we flush the packets of chips with oxygen, then the chips react with ixygen and becomes rancid and the smell and taste of food change.

Answer:

The correct option is (a)  it prevents rancidity of chips

Explanation:

  • Most of the chips packets, when observed, are filled with an air that is Nitrogen (i.e.) the packets are filled with nitrogen during their packaging
  • The reason for this is that, Nitrogen being an inert gas, would prevent the oxidization of chips in the packet. So oxygen would be excluded from the packet
  • Oxygen is a highly reactive gas and if oxygen reacts with the chips in the packet the chips would become rancid and taste and the smell of the chips in the packet would be affected if chips interact with oxygen
  • So, in order to avoid this, chips packets during manufacturing are filled with nitrogen
