a student measured the diameter of a small steel ball using a screw gauge of least count 0.001 cm. the main scale reading is 5 mm and 25 divisions above the refrence level. if screw gauge has a zero error of -0.004 cm, the correct diameter of the ball is?

Least count = 0.01

Main scale reading = 5mm

R=25division

Error. = -0.04

Observed reading = 0.5+25×0.001=0.525

Actual reading=0.525+0.004=0.529

Answer:

Least count=0.001 cm

M&R=5mm and 25 divisions

error= 0.004 cm

Observed reading,

0.5+25×0.001

0.5+0.025

0.525 cm

Actual reading,

0.525+0.004

0.529

Hence the answer is 0.529 cm.
