A pattern of different colours will appear on the screen which is behind the prism.

  • The white light divides into many colours when passing through the prism, these colors include red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
  • The red colour is obtained at the top because due to its longer wavelength.
  • The colour that is obtained at the bottom most part is violet because it has a shorter wavelength. All the colours lie between then in the same order as mentioned above.
  • This phenomenon is known as dispersion of light.
