The green dots are known as stomata and the pigment present in them is known as chlorophyll.
Stomata are the pores or small openings under a leaf for effective gaseous exchange.
Air and gases enter a plant through the stomata.
For photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is used.
A little bit of produced oxygen is used for respiration.
The extra oxygen left behind leaves a plant through the same pores.
Water vapor also exits into the atmosphere with the help of these small openings in a process called transpiration.
These small openings are created due to a pair of cells that are called the guard cells.
They help in adjusting the size of an opening by alternately opening or closing.
For opening a guard cell, protons are provided to a guard cell.
