of pencil when water is poured into it

(b) Name and define the phenomenon which accounts

for the above stated observation.

Answer:

a. the pencil seems to be bend or broken.

b.This happens due to the refraction .it is defined as bending of light ray when it enters from one medium to another medium having varying optical density.

c.

n=c/v

v=c/n=2.25 ×10^8m/s
