Solution -
Let us assume that the maximum marks that can be obtained in the test is X .
Now ,
Required marks to pass -
=> 40% of the total marks -
=> 40% of x
Student -
He gets 60 marks and fails by 20 marks.
So , he needs ( 60 + 20 ) = 80 marks .
So. we can say that -
40% of X = 80
=> [ 40 / 100 ] x = 80
=> x = 200
Thus , the maximum marks that can be obtained in that test is 200 .
This is the required answer .
