A student sets up a paper chromatogram and places a spot of purple food dye on the origin.

After six minutes the solvent has moved 15 cm and a red spot has advanced 12 cm.

After fifteen minutes the solvent has advanced a further 7.5 cm.

How far from the origin is the red spot likely to be after fifteen minutes?

(Give units with your answer)

Hint: you may first want to calculate the Rf value.

Answer:

x = 15

Explanation:

For a particular solvent Rf value remains constant

rf = total distance travelled by the spot /total distance travelled by the solvent front

rf = x/20

9/12 = x/20

⇒x=15cm

Answer:

Microsporangia is the structure that is mainly responsible for the production and releases of pollen grains. The thecae acts as the microsporangium. There are four layers found in the microsporangia and the four layers have a different role in the maturation of pollen grain.
