Earthworms are nature's ploughmen. They are used in several places which require high nutrient production and soft soil. For example: vermi-composting and certain leguminous crop production.

  • Earthworms are tube like creatures that burrow through the soil, breaking chunks of soil and small rock to create tunnels. Thus, enabling better water supply , more space for plants to lodge their roots and enough aeration for seedlings and other microbes.
  • They also feed on several organic material and the worm cast is highly rich in nutrients which satisfies most of the mineral requirements of plants. Thus, they are also called farmer's friend as they aid in the growth of plants naturally thereby reducing the dependency on chemical fertilisers.
