According to assumed situation:-
3x-x=8
2x = 8
x = 4
The no. of notebooks he has is 4

kaman9576pdpqh2: 8 how this possible

GIVEN :-

If thrice the number of notebooks are subtracted ftom 50 the result found was 8

TO FIND :-

The number of notebooks

SOLUTION :-

Let the number of Notebooks be ' x '

Then the thrice number of notebooks becomes '3x'

Subtracting thrice the number of notebooks from 50 = 50 - 3x

According to the question ,

\begin{gathered}\implies \sf \: 50 - 3x = 8 \\ \\ \implies \sf \: - 3x = 8 - 50 \\ \\ \implies \sf \: - 3x = - 42 \\ \\ \implies \sf \cancel{ - } 3x = \cancel{ - }42 \\ \\ \implies \sf \: 3x = 42 \\ \\ \implies \sf \: x = \frac{42}{3} \\ \\ \implies {\underline {\boxed {\blue {\sf{x = 14}}}}}\end{gathered}

∴ The number of notebooks are 14

VERIFICATION :-

Substituting x as 14 in the equation,

\begin{gathered}\implies \sf \: 50 - 3(14) = 8 \\ \\ \implies \sf \: 50 - 42 = 8 \\ \\ \implies \sf \: 8 = 8 \\ \\ \implies \sf \: LHS = RHS\end{gathered}
