A student testing for sulphate ions use barium nitrate acidified with dilute sulfuric acid instead of the recommended hydrochloric acid. Would this change in acid have any impact on the students results? Explain your answer fully.

The dilute HCl is added to remove Carbonates in the aqueous solution as the carbonate would precipitate as with the barium cation and give a false test ,

but if you add dilute H2SO4 for the same purpose even if the test solution didn't had SO42- before , It'll have now , hence it'll give a positive test nonetheless , so the student is in fact adding the sulphate ions then testing for it .
