A student thinks that the expression (a+b)2 and a2+b2 are equal to one another. How would you explain to the student why this is not so?

2(a+b) means 2 is multiplied by a and b both then when 2 is multiplied by a and b it gives 2a + 2b and you are dayin that it equals a2 + b2 then it is also true according to commutative property of multiplication which says that a×b=b×a means 2×a=a×2 means 2a+2b and a2+b2 both are right
