A student tied stone with one end of a strong string. She moves the

stone in a circular path by holding the other end of the string. The stone

moves in a circular path of constant radius. circular motion is a

movement of an object along the circumference of a circle or rotation

along a circular path.

The net force acting upon such an object is directed towards the centre

of the circle. The net force is said to be an inward or centripetal force.

Without such an inward force, an object would continue in a straight

line, never deviating from its direction. Yet, with the inward net force

directed perpendicular to the velocity vector, the object is always

changing its direction and undergoing an inward acceleration.

i) A body has uniform circular motion. Which of the following

statement is correct?

a) the speed of the body is constantthe velocity of the body is constant.

c) the magnitude of velocity of the body changes continuously.

d) the acceleration of the body is zero. 1

ii) A particle is moving in a circular path of diameter d. The

displacement after full circle would be

a) Zero b) πr c) 2r d) 2πr. 1

iii) Why is the motion of the stone in the circular path

considered as an accelerated motion? 1

iv) A person takes around of a circular path of radius 70 m

in 10 seconds. What is the speed of the person?
