A student wants to project the image of a candle flame on a screen 60 cm in front of a mirror by keeping the flame at a distance of 15 cm from its pole.
(a) Write the type of mirror he should use.
(b) Find the linear magnification of the image produced.
(c) What is the distance between the object and its image
(d) Draw a ray diagram to show the image formation in this case.

(a) concave mirror
(b) flame placed 15cm distance from its pole
so, object distance , u = -15cm
and screen placed 60cm distance from its pole
so, image distance,v = -60cm

Now, magnification = - image distance/object distance = -v/u
= -(-60cm)/(-15cm) = -4
Hence, linear magnification of the image is -4

(c) distance between object and image = distance of screen from pole of mirror - distance of object from pole of mirror
= B'P - BP = 60cm - 15cm = 45cm

(d) A candle , placed at B formed image on screen placed at B' as shown in figure.

a. Concave mirror

b. u = - 15

v = - 60 cm

m = - v/u

m = -(-60)/-15

m = - 4

c. Distance between object & image = 60 - 15 = 45 cm

d. Refer attachment
