A student wants to project the image of a candle flame on a screen 80 cm in front of a mirror by keeping the candle flame at a distance of 20 cm from its pole.
(1)Find the magnification of the image produces
(2)Draw a ray diagram to show the image formation in this case and maek the distance between the object and the image

a)The type of the mirror is Concave mirror
b) Linear Magnification of the image produces (m) = -v/u
u = -20 cm
v = -80 cm
m = -v/u = -80/-20 = 4
c)The distance b/w the object and the mirror is 20 cm.
d) Ray diagram - object between F and C.

aswinnarayananp46cbi: Thanks!!!!
ShreyaBhowmick: Welcome....!!
aswinnarayananp46cbi: But i have a doubt,isnt v=height of image?
aswinnarayananp46cbi: and they havent given the height of the image.so is it aceptable to use the magnification formula?
ShreyaBhowmick: I found to use magnification formula as preferable in this case..
aswinnarayananp46cbi: i understood.Thanks dude!!
abhi8460: v is the distance of the image from the optical centre

Magnification of the image produced is -4

Given

distance of image =  80 cm

distance of object = 20cm

To Find

We need to find the magnification of image produced.

Solution

Here a concave mirror is used to get the image.

Object distance, u = - 20 cm

image distance, v = - 80 cm;

magnification, m = x

m = \frac{-v}{u} = - \frac{-80}{-20} = -4

Distance between the object and its image = v - u

                                                                       = 60 cm

Magnification is - 4 and distance between object and image is 60cm
