Step-by-step explanation:

minimum pass mark = 515 × 100/(100+3)

= 515×100/103

= 500

y's percentage above pass mark

= (710-500)×100/500 %= 210×100/500 % =42

Given : student X passes with 515 marks having scored 3 % above the minimum

student y had 710 marks

To Find :  what % would his score have been above the minimum

Solution:

Let say Minimum Score  = M

3 % of  the minimum = ( 3/100) M = 0.03M

3 % above the minimum = M + 0.03M = 1.03M

1.03M = 515

=> M = 500

student y had 710 marks

=> Marks above minimum score = 710 -500 =210

% above minimum score = (210/500) * 100 = 42 %

Y score 42 % above minimum
