A study found that children with light-coloured eyes are likely to have parents with light-coloured eyes. On this basis, can we say anything about whether the light eye colour trait is dominant or recessive? Why or why not?

because if both the parents have light eye colour and the offspring also posess light eye colour it mean that the eye colour is dominant trait over their family if it was recessive then either one of parent do not have light eye color or none have light eye colour but light eye color is seen in their offspring in that case they would have recessive trait of light eye color.

There can be two possibilities:

  1. Light coloured eyes is a recessive character. Both the parents with the light coloured eyes are homozygous recessive.
  2. Light eye colour is dominant & parents are homozygous dominant.
