Thank you, except I'm no expert of social behavior! These are my thoughts only.

While extremes of this or any other behavior are worrisome, I would be much more concerned if a child never showed any inclination for, let's call it, self-direction. Disobedience usually is a sign that the child makes up his mind to do something, and ON OCCASION, what this child decided to do might be contrary to what the parents would wish.

And of course, there is that special age, the so-called "terrible twos," which may begin at about 1 1/2 years of age, where a child learns that he or she can assert themselves. Would we truly not want a child to learn this? I don't think so.

I'm no psychologist, but some of what we call "disobedience" in children is part of the natural order of things. And let's also not dismiss this: adults are frequently wrong too. Let's not pretend that whatever any parent wants the child to do is automatically correct and virtuous. Have we never noticed parents yelling at children for all the wrong reasons?
