Population density

Explanation:

(a) 1 is Natality(B); 2 is Immigration(I); 3 is Mortality(D) and 4 is Emigration(E)

  • Natality also known as the birth rate is number of births in a population divided by the total population size
  • Immigration is defined as the number of people migrating in a given set of population
  • Mortality is the death rate which is number of deaths in a population divided by the total population size
  • Emigration is defined as the number of people migrating from a given set of population

(b) Population density is the number of individuals present per unit area

Different ways by which the population density can be measured are:

  • Total number: in this type of method total number of organisms in a population is counted
  • Relative densities: in this type relative density of population is taken into account
  • Biomass cover: in this type percent cover of different types of plants or organisms present in a population is taken into consideration
