 \bold{CATALYST \: IS \: A \: SUBSTANCE \: WHICH \: CHANGES \: RATE}  \bold{OF \: REACTION \: WITHOUT \: TAKING \: PART \: IN \: IT}

◼It can either speed up or can slow dowm the reaction.

◼It can be regained after the reaction had been conpleted as it remains unaffected.

◼It can be used as an source to provide heat, after an eternal heating is done.

Example :-

▶During catalytic oxidation of Ammonia,

heating is done innitally and further platinum which was used as catalyst carries on emiting heat .

 4NH_3 + 5O_2\xrightarrow{Pt}  4NO + 6H_2O

▶During preparation of sulphuric acid on contacts process venadium pentaoxide is used as catalyst to increase the rate of reaction in conversion of sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide.

 2SO_2 + O_2 \xrightarrow{V_2O_5}  2SO_3 + \Delta
