Required Answer:-

  • X is baking soda ( \bf Na_{2}HCO_{3} )
  • Y is tartaric acid

because, when tartaric acid is added to baking soda it produces baking powder along with water and \bf CO_{2}

Reaction:-

\bf Na_{2}HCO_{3} + Tartaric acid \longrightarrow Sodium salt of tartaric acid + \bf CO_{2} + \bf H_{2}O

  • When we heat baking soda in lab it produces Sodium carbonate ( \bf Na_{2}CO_{3} ) + \bf CO_{2} + \bf H_{2}O

Reaction:-

\bf Na_{2}HCO_{3} \longrightarrow \bf Na_{2}CO_{3} + \bf CO_{2} + \bf H_{2}O
