Answer:

The 'X' compound is calcium oxide (CaO) or quick lime which is used for white washing.

The 'Y' compound is calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 which is formed by the reaction of water and quick lime. Ca(OH)2 also produce lime stone (CaCO3) combine with carbon dioxide (CO2)

Explanation:

i) The reaction of water and lime is-

CaO + H2O ➡️ Ca(OH)2

ii) The reaction of calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide-

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 ➡️ CaCO3 + H2O

A substance X is used for white wash combine with water form Y.

Calcium Oxide (CaO) used for white wash.

So, substance X is Calcium Oxide.

Reaction of Calcium Oxide with water is:

\sf{CaO+H_2O\:\rightarrow\:Ca(OH)_2}

The above reaction is a Combination Reaction. As two or more reactants combine to form a single product.

When water reacts with Calcium Oxide formation of Calcium Hydroxide or Slaked lime takes place.

Therefore, substance or compound Y is Calcium Hydroxide.

Again, Y combine with CO2 and form limestone.

\sf{Ca(OH)_2+CO_2\:\rightarrow\:CaCO_3+H_2O}

When Calcium Hydroxide reacts with the carbon-dioxide formation of Calcium Carbonate and water takes place.

The above reaction is Double Displacement Reaction because exchange of ions takes place.
