Answer:

The substance 'X" is sodium bicarbonate .

It is produced using sodium chloride as one of the raw materials.

NaCl + H2O + CO2+ NH3 NH4Cl + NaHCO3

i)A mixture of ,baking soda (sodium hydrogencarbonate) and a mild edible acid such as tartaric acid, known as baking powder, is added while preparing cakes and bread. When baking powder is heated or mixed in water, the following reaction takes place –

NaHCO3+ H+→ CO2+ H2O + Sodium salt of acid (From any acid)

ii)The pH value of solution of baking soda is more than 7,because it is a mild base.

The CO2 gas released gets trapped into the dough and makes cakes spongy.

iii) Chemical formula - NaHCO3

common name - Baking soda
