A substance X which is used as an antacid reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid to produce a gas Y which is used in one type of fire-extinguisher. Name the substance X and gas Y. Write a balanced equation for the chemical reaction which takes place.

Baking soda (nahco3) is an antacid and co2 is used in fire extinguishers

Required chemical equation is:

NaHCO3+ HCI = NaCl + H20 + CO2.

The name of'x' is baking soda or NaHCO3 i.e. an antacid and name of 'y' is carbon dioxide or CO2 i.e. used in fire.

eq^n=> NaHCO3+HCl=NaCl+H2O+CO2
