(a) Chemical equation:

\bold{CaCO_{3(s)}+H C l_{(l)} \rightarrow C a C l_{(s)}+H_{2} O_{(l)}+C O_{2(g)}}

  • In this reaction, calcium chloride is the major product.
  • The above given process is a neutralization process as calcium carbonate is a base and hydrochloric acid is an acid (obviously!).
  • It a white salt and widely used in food preservation.

(b) Balanced chemical reaction:

\bold{N a O H_{(s)}+H C l_{(l)} \rightarrow N a C l_{(s)}+H_{2} O_{(l)}}

  • The sodium chloride is the major product in the above reaction.
  • This is an ionic compound and which is well known for the presence of sodium and chloride ions in 1:1 ratio.
  • This is an edible salt and known as table salt.
  • It is also used in de-icing of road during winter season.

Balanced Equation is Reactants = Products

Explanation:

a.) Calcium carbonate reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce calcium chloride, water, and carbon dioxide gas can be written in the equation form as -  CaCO_3 (s) + HCl (aq) --> CaCl_2 (aq) + H_2O (l) + CO_2 (g)

b.) Sodium hydroxide solution reacts with a hydrochloric acid solution to produce sodium chloride solution and water -

NaOH (aq) + HCl (aq) --> NaCl (aq) + H_2O (l)
