Given :-

  • A suitcase with measure 90cm x 45 cm x 30 cm is to be covered with a tarpaulin cloth

To Find :-

  • How many square metres of tarpaulin is required for 100 suitcases

Solution :-

~Here, we’re given the measures of a suitcase and we need to find the length of tarpaulin cloth which is required to cover 100 such suitcases. Firstly, we need to find the total surface area of the suitcase as we need to cover all the surfaces of the suitcase and then multiply it with 100 to find the cloth needed to cover 100 suitcases.

Finding the Total Surface area ( TSA ) :-

\sf \bullet \;\; TSA\;of\;Cuboid = 2(lb+bh+hl)

Where,

  • l is length
  • b is breadth
  • h is height

\sf \implies 2 \{ ( 90 \times 45 ) + ( 45 \times 30 ) + ( 30 \times 90 ) \}

\sf \implies 2 \{ 4050 + 1350 + 2700 \}

\sf \implies 2 \{ 8100 \}

\sf \implies 2 \times 8100

\sf \implies 16200 \; cm^{2}

Finding the cloth required :-

\sf \bullet \;\; 1\;suitcase = 16200\;cm^{2}

\sf \implies 100\;suitcases = 16200 \times 100

[ In the question we need to find the square meters ]

\sf \bullet \;\; 1\;cm = \dfrac{1}{100}\;m

\sf \implies 1620000 \times \dfrac{1}{100}

\sf \implies 16200\;m^{2}

Therefore,

  • The tarpaulin cloth needed is 16200 m²
