Given: Length of suitcase = 50 cm

Breadth of suitcase = 40 cm

Height of suitcase = 40 cm

To find: Length of tarpaulin cloth of width 40 cm

To cover the suitcase we have to find the total surface area suitcase

As we know

Total surface area of cuboid 2(1 × b + bx - h+hx 1) where I is length b is breadth and his height of cuboid

and area of rectangle = I' x b' where I' is length and b' is breadth of rectangle

Now

Total surface area of suitcase = Area of cloth required

2(lx b+bxh+hxl) =1 xố X

⇒ 2(50 × 40 + 40 x 40 + 40 × 50) = l' × 40

2 x 40(50 + 40+50)

40

Hence, the required length of the cloth to cover the suitcase is 280 cm or 2.8 m
