A sum of 2000 US dollars split between two investments, one paying 7% return and

the other one 8%. If the return on the 8% investment exceeds that on the 7%

investment by 40 US dollars, how much is invested at each rate?

lets say that the some investment is x dollar and other is 2000-x dollar

now x*8/100 - (2000-x)*7/100 =40

theirfor 15x/100-140=40

hence if we calculate then x = 180*100/15

gives x= 1200

so the investment is 1200 dollar and 800 dollar
