Answer: 40

Step (i): Let x be the number of boys and y be the number of girls.

Given total number of boys and girls = 100

x+y=100 -------------- (i)

Step (ii): A boy gets Rs. 3.60 and a girl gets Rs. 2.40

The amount given to 100 boys and girls = Rs. 312

3.60x + 2.40y = 312 -------------- (ii)

Step (iii):

Solving (i) and (ii)

3.60x + 3.60y = 360 --------- Multiply (i) by 3.60

3.60x + 2.40y = 312 --------- (ii)

1.20y = 48

y = 48 / 1.20

= 40

The number of girls in the group is 54.

Given:

Total sum = $360

Total students = 96

Amount received by boys = $2.40

Amount received by girls =  $4.80.

To find:

What is the number of girls in the group?

Solution:

Let the number of boys be = x

Let the number of girls be = y

As per the question -

x + y = 96 - Eq 1

The amount is given to 96 boys and girls = $360

2.4x + 4.8y = 360

Simplifying -

x + 2y = 150 - Eq 2

Solving Eq 1 and 2

x + y = 96

x + 2y = 150

= 2y - y = 150 - 96

y = 54

Substituting the value of y in equation 1 -

x + y = 96

x + 54 = 96

x = 96 - 54

x = 42

Answer: Number of girls is 54.
