Explanation: Let the number of 5 denomination notes be 'x'

                     Let the number of 10 denomination notes be 'y'

  • It is given that the total number of notes are 90,

       Therefore,

       x + y = 90 is our eq 1

  • The total amount of money = Rs.500

        Therefore,

        5x + 10y = 500 is our eq 2

        ( Denomination multiplied by its number of notes will give us the amount         of money, example : If we have 2 notes of Rs.10, then the total amount of money will be 2 × 10 = 20)

  • On solving these equations by elimination/substitution method, we get :        

        x = 80

        y = 10

Therefore, Number of notes of 5 denomination are 80 and 10 denomination are 10.
