SOLUTION:

_________

We can proceed on this question by assuming for the last recipient or the first recipient of his or her share. Here we begin by the first recipient.

Let the first recipent student gets $ x

Second student would get ($x - 20)

Following the same pattern the share of all the seven students would bee as -

x , (x-20) , (x -40) , (x-60) , (x-80) , (x-100) , (x-120)

Now adding all we get the total sum = 7x - 420

Also the total sum = 700

So, ACQ

7x - 420 = 700

7x = 700 + 420

7x = 1120

x = 1120/7

x = 160

So, the first recipient gets $160

The value of each prize is given below

x = $ 160

(x-20) = $ 140

(x -40) = $ 120

(x-60) = $ 100

(x-80) = $ 80

(x-100) = $ 60

(x-120) = $ 40
