The answer is 600.

We know that S.I.= \frac{PRT}{100}

When T=2,

S.I. = \frac{P.R.2}{100} (I)

Interest= Amount- P

S.I. = 696-P (II)

Substituting (II) in (I),

696-P = \frac{2PR}{100}

\frac{696-P}{2} = \frac{PR}{100} (III)

When T=5,

S.I. = \frac{P.R.5}{100} (IV)

Interest = Amount- P

S.I. = 840-P (II)

Substituting (II) in (I),

840-P = \frac{5PR}{100}

\frac{840-P}{5} =  \frac{PR}{100} (IV)

Since RHS of (III) = RHS of (IV),

\frac{696-P}{2} = \frac{840-P}{5}

5 (696-P) = 2 (840-P)

3480-5P= 1680-2P

1800= 3P

600=P

Hence, the sum is Rs. 600.
