A sum of Rs. 1000 is in the form of denominations of Rs 10 & Rs 20.If the total no. of notes is 65, find the number of notes of each type.

Let x be the no of notes for 10 Rs. and

y for Rs. 20/-

Value = 10x+20y

Since value is given as 10000,

we have 10x+20y = 1000 ...(i)

Next it is given that total no of notes is 65

x+y =65 ...(ii)

Solve these two equations.

Multiply (ii) by 10 and subtract from (i)

10y =350

y =35:   x=65-35 =30

Thus there are 30 notes of Rs.10/- each, 35 notes for Rs.20/-.
